My photo
From the age of 5, seemingly endless hours were spent in the pool as I swam for New England Swimming/AAU. The smell of chlorine is nostalgic. During life's tough times, I draw on my swimming experiences of discipline, coupled with my faith in Jesus Christ. I spent many years out west for my schooling in speech-language pathology and special education, before returning to NE to teach. Although I have a passion for teaching young children with special needs, I currently am at home with my own 2 sweet girls, both of whom have sensorineural hearing loss and are the greatest gifts in my life.

Tummy Time!

We've been working diligently on tummy time to try to strengthen Sweet Baby Girl's shoulder and neck muscles to help work her way out of her torticollas. She's made lots of improvement and is a little trooper. One more week and she'll be 3 months old! I feel like we're finally entering the fun stage and it's amazing to see the little steps of growth each week.

Dressing Up

Little Miss Sunshine had a ball sifting through our box of dress up clothes, most of them gathered from my teaching days. Here's what she said while trying on various hats...

LMS-Mom, what do you think? Me dressed up. I dress up in some costumes.
Me- I love it.
LMS- Look at my magical hat.
Me- Yeah!
LMS- These are my necklaces. Mom, look at me! Loot at this big fancy hat (trying on a yellow hat). Mom, you try this hat (handing me the yellow hat).

A few minutes later, she comments on her outfit, "Beautiful".

Success!!!!!

Hurray! Finally! Little Miss Sunshine actual eliminated on the potty. Phew! She is now 2.8 years and I was beginning to worry if she would ever be interested. After a failed trial period in the spring before Sweet Baby Girl's arrival, I began to worry if it would ever happen. Guitar Daddy gently reminded me that most parents don't send their children off to high school unpotty trained. Ok, it would happen, but I decided since my very regimented and strict approach only caused stress, anxiety and tears for the both of us, I would try to be low key and follow her lead on this. Lately I've tried to calmly provide opportunities to sit on the potty and this evening before her bath, she sat for a bit and then said, "Mommy, the poops and pee pees are coming!" Finally! She then was allowed free reign of the toilet paper and was able to flush (reinforcers waiting for a success). We then followed-up with phone calls to Grandma and Daddy. We're not free and clear by any means, but it was a good first step.
